HINFO Records

A Host Information Record (HINFO) identifies the hardware and operating system of a host.

The HINFO record consists of the following four fields:

  • Host - The hostname for the record, entered as either a simple, one-part name, or as a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) with or without a trailing dot. Examples:

    • hostname

    • hostname.example.biz

    • hostname.example.biz.

    • example.biz

    • example.biz.

  • Machine Type - The host's hardware type, entered as free text (maximum of 255 alphanumeric characters).

  • OS - The host's operating system, entered as free text (maximum of 255 alphanumeric characters).

  • TTL - The Time to Live (TTL) for the record. You can provide this value as either an integer or an annotated value (1h = 1 hour).

    • This field is not required, and will be set to the default value if left empty.
